New Mexico Fund for Public Interest Journalism began in January 2017 as a way to create a vessel for philanthropic donations to support impactful, community-based journalism.

We’re just getting started. But here’s the basic plan.

Story Hunt: Cultural and artistic diversity, environmental justice, technology innovation—these are the types of under-covered or neglected stories our journalists will tackle.

Skill-Build: Northern New Mexico has a dearth of training and learning opportunities for reporters, writers and critics. We aim to provide hands-on training to student and citizen journalists with a reporting lab, field work and publishing opportunities.

Share Widely: No firewall. No subscription fees. No barriers to access. Our work will always be free and be freely available to other outlets as well to provide as far a reach as possible.

Speak Truth to Power: Public information means public. We will buy data from the government and share it through our journalism with the public. And we’ll sue for access when necessary.

It only happens with your support
